Rockerverb -- the origin of a species

The Rockerverb series went into production in the early part of 2004. At the time Orange was primarily selling its AD series, but players were asking for something with high gain, reverb and an effects loop.

Orange felt that there was enough room in the market for two distinct product lines. The original AD series has now become their "retro" vintage purist amp, and the RV (Rockerverb) series their "modern" line for people who need flexibility and lots of gain.

Mercury's demo room at the 2006 LA Amp Show featured a large selection of Mercury-equipped amps from various makers—but we couldn't help but notice all of the attention and player interest the new Rockerverb 50 was getting. The RV50 was clearly a hit -- even with the vintage guys who loved its tone and versatility.

Retro chime meets searing nu metal dirt in an explosion of all tube circuitry and purist technology! If versatility is your vice, then the Rockerverb is the only amplifier for you.

The 6V6-based RV50 Combo is an all-tube, 50 watt, channel-switching combo, with tube-driven FX loop and reverb. The Rockerverb 50 comes loaded with custom-designed Mercury Magnetics transformers and two 12" Celestion Vintage 30 loudspeakers.

Orange is known for some of the best guitar tones in the industry. With the RV50 you get the perfect amp for almost any situation. It's all here, including that legendary Orange tone, functionality and "bombproof" build-quality. These amps are designed to be pushed beyond traditional restraints into bold new sonic territories.

The Rockerverb 50 is engineered from the ground up to include features never before seen in any Orange amp:

Orange amps sound their best when you crank 'em. 50 watts is perfect for club gigs, allowing you to really drive the 6V6 tubes of the power amp. The RV50's versatility also makes it a fantastic studio workhorse.

Premium Transformers by Mercury Magnetics

Orange has always had a dedicated following of players who are very picky about their "flavor" of tone. A major contributor to the Orange sound is their uniquely-designed transformers.

From the beginning of the Rockerverb project Orange's mantra was "It's all about the tone." And to support this concept they didn't hold back on the crucial NEW transformer designs. Mercury's team was brought in to work out the sonic nuances of the RV's transformers that would also preserve the classic British tone Orange amps are famous for. We're especially proud of the RV50's new Axiom-ized output transformer. Talk about dynamic tonal depth and color -- this baby has it all! The result is an outstanding boutique-style amp at manufacturer prices. The Rockerverb is truly a next-generation amp for players to enjoy.

Rockerverb 50 is packed with tonal functionality --

The Clean Channel: The clean channel's preamp is designed around two stages of all-tube tone and features interactive bass and treble controls. This channel is more than capable of pushing out loud punchy clean tones and yet can still be driven to achieve a light retro crunch.

The Dirty Channel: An Orange amplifier with 4 stages of all-tube overdrive? Yes! The dirty channel goes from crystal clean right through shades of vintage British to full-on overdrive that provides controlled feedback at any volume level. This channel gives you the ability to blow away your friends hi-gain amplifiers, whilst retaining the versatility of an Orange amps retro tones!

Reverb: A newly-designed tube-driven, tube-returned reverb circuit gives the Rockerverb reverb a sparkling chime never heard before from an Orange amp. It features the high-quality Accutronics 3-spring reverb tank.

Effects Loop: Tube-buffered, tube-returned. Orange pioneered the effects loop back in the 1970s. So it's no surprise that the Rockerverb amplifiers come fitted with the highest quality effects loop in the industry.

Tube Failure Protection: Here's a feature to take a weight off your mind! If you experience a power tube failure while playing, Orange's tube failure protection system will kick in and allow you to continue playing at half power. There is even a helpful LED to let you know which pair of tubes has been effected!

Hi/Low Damping: The RV50 features a hi/low damping selector. This controls the amount of current to the power tubes. Switch it to Hi to tighten the sound of the amplifier. Lo gives you a looser sound.

UPDATE AUGUST 2007: While Orange was manufacturing in the USA many of their amp models used Mercury transformers. If you are lucky enough to have one of these amps, congratulations. It's easy to check, look inside for ORANGE end-bells or a Mercury sticker (or both). If you discover that your newer Orange amp does not have Mercury transformers, and you want that fantastic vintage Orange tone -- give us a call and we'll be happy to help you. "Sound Quality: 10. This is the reason that I purchased this amp. It is exactly what I've always wished my amp to sound like. The clean is completely clean and chimey, but isn't thin- and weak-sounding. It has a lot of balls. The dirty channel can go from a warm overdrive to a much heavier tone -- I keep mine around 4, and it sounds incredible. At that setting, it is the chunky Orange sound that they are known for. The greatest thing about this amp is that it doesn't make every guitar sound like your amp... every guitar still maintains its unique tone. I play with a '74 Guild Starfire IV, and a Gibson SG Junior, and I have all of the range of sounds I could want between these two guitars and this amp."
